5 Reasons Why You Should Spend This Weekend Crying over Steel Magnolias

Steel-Magnolias-DI

So, I had never seen Steel Magnolias until this week. I knew the iconic lines (“Pink is my signature color”), I knew it would make me laugh and cry, but I never sat down to watch it. Seeing as it’s leaving Netflix on the 29th I thought I’d give it a go before I lost the chance and I’m here to convince you it is so worth the heartache and tears. I’m going to keep this list short because time is running out, and I know you all have nothing better to do than watch Netflix this weekend.

1. The film stars Dolly Parton, Shirley MacLaine, Sally Field, Julia Roberts, Daryl Hannah, and Olympia Dukakis.

Need I say more? You pretty much have me sold anytime you include Dolly Parton in a movie, but if you are not a convert to the church of Dolly you should at least appreciate that this ensemble cast is incredible. For those of you who hate women (avoid this movie), Tom Skerrit, Sam Shephard (of Netflix’s own Bloodline fame), and Dylan McDermot also do a pretty stellar job in the film as husbands of three of the leading ladies.

2. The film stars Dolly Parton

I just really like Dolly.

3. It’ll make you laugh

The film has physical gags and a lightning quick wit.

4. It’ll make you cry

I’m not ashamed to admit I cried like a baby during this movie. My best friend has Type 1 Diabetes. If you know anyone who has Type 1 Diabetes or if you have a heart: be prepared to cry. A lot.

5. Steel Magnolias teaches us that life isn’t always fair and even the most delicate women can be strong as hell.
