5 PERFECT GOOFY MOVIES TO GET YOU READY FOR ‘WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER: FIRST DAY OF CAMP’

This weekend is a great time to binge watch the new Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp but you want to make sure you’re in the right state of mind before you go in so you can get that PERFECT experience. You don’t eat a giant plate of spaghetti right before you go for a jog, do you? Luckily you have me to help you get your brain ready for the awesomeness of David Wain and Michael Showalter with these 5 goofy movies to get you in the right mood to watch Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp.

TOP SECRET

You need to prepare your mind to the fact that you’re going to see some goofy and random shit, sometimes for no reason! Nothing says so fucking crazy it’s hilarious like Val Kilmer in Top Secret. A spoof movie of all those spy movies by the sultans of satire Zucker/Abrahams/Zucker about a famous American singer who gets caught up in a crazy secret mission to find the father of the love of his life who was captured and being held prisoner in Germany. The movie has some of the most insane and creative gags of Z/A/Z’s career and next to Airplane stands as their best movie.

THE BURBS

Wet Hot American Summer is a huge ensemble cast that has to work together to make this the best summer ever! The Burbs is another HUGE ensemble where the cul de sac joins forces to find out what their mysterious new neighbors are up to and why they’re so creepy. Tom Hanks is the Janeane Garofalo of the group, rallying the troops together to work as one and almost always failing miserably.

ANNIE HALL

Ok. This list has probably lost you by now, but hear me out! Annie Hall is the wackiest Woody Allen movie on Netflix but my original choice was Bananas. Besides it’s a great movie so you can just hush up! Annie Hall has all your favorite moments in every Woody Allen movie but has a dash of old Woody where he’s balls to the wall wacky and doesn’t give a fuck. I wanted to also add this movie to the list so you felt a hint of class, knowing there’s an Oscar winning movie mixed in with a bunch of films that have never seen an award…

THEY CAME TOGETHER

See how director David Wain has grown into his own as a master of satire with his latest rom-com starring Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler as they fight the true test of time and fall madly in love with one another. You’re gonna want to get ready for some kissing because when teens are at summer camp… panties drop.

WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER

Of course this one is going to be on the list. The original that inspired the series! I just recommend you watch this one AFTER you finish the series so you can get the full experience, watching the first day of camp, then making your way to the last day when everyones ambitions are thrown to the wind and they’re going to do everything they wanted to do all summer long! When you can fondle your sweaters or hump a fridge if you want to and YOU DON’T CARE WHO KNOWS IT!
